Ferret Care Basics

Ferrets can be wonderful pets for first-time owners who
are prepared for their needs. They are intelligent,
playful, and deeply social animals that bond strongly
with their owners. They do require daily interaction,
a proper diet, regular vet care, and a ferret-proofed
living space. We provide every new owner with a
comprehensive care guide and ongoing support to make
the transition as smooth as possible.

Ferrets have a natural musky scent from their skin
glands — this is normal and cannot be eliminated
entirely. All our ferrets are descented (scent glands
removed). Regular cage cleaning, proper diet, and
keeping bedding fresh minimizes odor significantly.
Most ferret owners adjust to the natural scent quickly
and find it very manageable.

Ferrets typically live 6–10 years with proper care,
nutrition, and regular veterinary attention. We
recommend establishing a relationship with a
ferret-savvy veterinarian as soon as your ferret
comes home for annual checkups and preventive care.

Ferrets are highly social animals and generally thrive
with a companion. Two ferrets will keep each other
entertained, play together, and sleep curled up
together — which is one of the most endearing things
you’ll ever see. That said, a single ferret that
receives plenty of daily human interaction can live
a very happy life. We’re happy to advise on the best
option for your specific lifestyle.
